List of Samsung Phones with Water Resistant (IP68, IPX8, and IP67)

For many years, most Samsung phones with water resistant are flagships; the S series and Note Series. However, starting with the galaxy A52 series and A72 launched in 2021, the feature was introduced to the mid-range segment and this continues in 2022 with A33 5G, A53 5G, and A73 5G.

While their flagships come with an IP68 rating, the first set of Samsung mid-range phones that are waterproof comes with an IP67 rating. If your device is advertised to have any of these two ratings, then it is water resistant. But there is a slight discrepancy between them.

While IP67 phones can be immersed in water of up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes, phones with IP68 can be immersed in water for more than 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.

For IP68, different manufacturers can set the depth their devices can survive under and that is why the S21 and S22 lineup, is 1.5 meters and iPhone 13 lineup, is about 6 meters.

There is a third one called IPX8 (up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes) which is not as good as the IP68 and it is also not dust resistant. It is widely used in Samsung fold and flip phones.

Final Thought

Accidentally splashing or dropping water on smartphones was one of the major reasons this feature was integrated into modern smartphones. However, IP67 and IP68 don’t just mean waterproof, it also means dust resistance.

Today, the feature serves more than that. Thanks to water resistance on modern smartphones, we can take pictures and record videos underwater. You might want to get one of the Samsung phones that also have video stabilization though if you want to get the best out of this feature.

It is amazing that we now have upper mid-range Samsung phones with water resistant. They will probably extend that to the lower mid-range and maybe the entry-level phones in the future.
