List of Samsung Phones with OIS (And Top 10)

Looking for a Samsung phone that is great for photography? Then, you should go for one with OIS.

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is one of the top camera features a smartphone must have to take and shoot awesome pictures and videos respectively. So, you shouldn’t be surprised that you hardly see it on mid-range or low-entry smartphones.

As a matter of fact, Samsung has never included this feature on mid-range or low-entry Galaxy phones up until 2021. They have always only included the feature on their flagship phones (Galaxy S and Note Series).

The good news is that there is a possibility that they will continue this new trend and maybe even use it on all their A series smartphones from 2023 onward and not just some of them as the case was in 2021 and 2022.

I will update this page when that happens, so stay tuned.

What is OIS and How Does it Work?

In simple terms, it allows you to take clearer / sharper, and more stable pictures by using a gyroscope that can quickly detect a motion and get the camera system to move in the opposite direction.

Also, it enables you to shoot a smoother video. The gyroscope has other applications and you can check my write-up about Samsung phones that have gyroscope to learn more.

There are various reasons why you might end up with a blurry picture when taken with your smartphone, but the ones compensated for by OIS are: If the image is in motion, If the camera shakes, and for lowlight.

In a smartphone, OIS basically detects a motion and counteracts it which in turn allows you to get a sharp photo and record a stable and smooth video.

This can be very handy when shooting slow-mo videos and not all Samsung phones with Slow motion camera comes with OIS.

Final Thought

I know this is a long list. But the truth is almost all Samsung flagship phones from a few years back have OIS integration and works well with them too.

In 2021, we saw the inclusion of this camera feature on mid-range Samsung phones for the first time and they are the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 (including their other variants). This continues with the Samsung A33 5G, A53 5G, and A73 5G announced in 2022.

Even better, all their latest flagships since 2020 have OIS on both the main camera and telephoto lenses and this helps guarantee great photography on them. Before then, it has always been the top-of-the-line flagships that have this Dual OIS feature.
