IR (Infrared) blaster is a technology embedded in smartphones that allows them to be used as a remote control for other electronic devices such as a Tv and Air conditioner. The first Samsung device launched with this feature was the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013 and in this write-up are the other Samsung phones with IR Blaster.
However, it was only a matter of time before Samsung stopped shipping its phones with this technology. If one of your main purposes for buying a smartphone is to be used as a remote control, you might want to look elsewhere.
The smartphone manufacturers that still ships IR blaster with virtually all their smartphone are Xiaomi. Unfortunately, their phones are not officially available in the United States.
Samsung Phones with IR Blaster
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S4 Mini, and S4 Zoom
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4
- Samsung Galaxy S5 and S5 Mini
- Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Active
- Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
As you can see, most of the Samsung phones with IR blaster have been discontinued and Samsung hasn’t released a phone with the technology since the Galaxy S6 in 2015. Just like the case with Samsung phones with a home button.
And there is no indication that they will reconsider this decision now or anytime in the future. So, as I said earlier, if your priority is to use your smartphone as a remote control, you should consider a Xiaomi phone which by the way isn’t available in the US.
You will have to import them from a nearby country or one where it is officially available such as the United Kingdom (UK).
