List of Samsung Phones with Gyroscope Sensor

The primary function of a gyroscope is to detect rotational motion and changes in orientation. This write-up is about Samsung phones that comes with Gyroscope and the functions of the sensor in your smartphone.

In a smartphone, a gyroscope sensor is useful in:

1.) Motion-based Applications such as car racing games: When you tilt your smartphone in different directions to change the direction of the car in these games, the gyroscope is the reason you were able to do that.

2.) Image stabilization: which in turn enables your smartphone camera to take blurry-free / sharp pictures and record a stable and smooth video. This is why the expensive Samsung phones have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on both their wide and telephoto lenses.

Gyroscope in a camera system compensates for any movement of the phone by the person holding it. When the phone shifts/shake to the right, the gyroscope moves to the left.

3.) Changes in display orientation: You know when you disable the lock orientation feature on your smartphone and were able to use your display in both portrait and landscape mode, that is a gyroscope in action.

There are many other applications of a gyroscope and not just in smartphones alone, but I won’t be getting into those today. It is worth mentioning that gyro is the short form of gyroscope and can be used interchangeably.

Final Thought

In my opinion, the best application of a gyroscope in a smartphone is for image stabilization.

Why? Because not everyone plays games and not everyone feels the need to change the orientation of their display every now and then.

However, even those that do not like taking pictures of themselves to use the camera to take pictures of numerous other things or for recording a video. And those actions are much more fun and easier on a Samsung phone with image stabilization.
